Today when driving home, light turns red and I'm hitting the brakes. The truck is stuck at 2500 RPM. I shut it off and pushed the brake in, pushed it into a parking lot and started to fiddle around. The return spring is working, the throttle cable isn't stuck. There is nothing in the barrels from what I can see and the choke isn't stuck. What could it be, no matter what I do I can't get it to idle properly. If it makes matters worse, I just sea foamed it yesterday.

Thank You guys.

Overtightened mounting bolts , choke misadjusted , sticking linkage , etc . And it shouldn't be return spring , it should be return springs as in two together and they run from the back of the intake to the rear of the linkage .

Maybe the seafoam ate the good dirt off the linkage that was lubricating it .

. Make a deal for the rebuilt one in the for sale section , and give me yours to fix up :thumb:

Yes your correct it is 2 return springs. I'm not sure what im going to do but until I make my mind up I get to drive dads truck.

It sounds to me like it's on the high idle cam,Even if the choke don't look stuck the high idle cam can be stuck up in the high idle position.I would back the high idle screw off or in some cases it will be a tang to bend(older q-jet).Also make sure there is no vacuum leaks. Hope this helps mike

Check your motor mounts, mine used to do that when the mounts were broke.

Jet Performance has some Qjet for a good price. Check them out or find a shop local to rebuild yours. Or find someone who went FI and has a old Qjet they will sell you or something.

If the choke isn't closed/high idle cam sticking and the idle screw is right, only thing it can be is more fuel, which I'd blame on gasket leaks, crud blocking the needles or needle/seat from seating fully, and things along that line.

If it happened after seafoam, and seafoam is supposed to clean it, I can see crud breaking free and getting in the important pieces. :)

It's not that tough to tear one of these apart, and not expensive either. About $25 for a rebuild kit.

I was talking tonight today and We think were going to take the challenge on rebuilding the carb. My dad has a good amount of knowledge on one, but this will be our first rebuild. I really can't afford to go out and buy a new one.
