quadrajet carb

I have a early Chevy one that needs a cleaning and gasket kit . Can get pics when I get back from Wheeling Sat. night .

Here , a little surface rust from sitting , just on the throttle shafts where the butterflies bolt on , they do open , just grind off with a dremel and clean her up with a simple carb kit :D

No emissions model for early rigs . Hows fifty plus the ride which should be less than 15 ground ?

i can't really tell, will my stock throttle linkage work? what about the choke, how does that work? the butterflies will close by themselves when you let go, right? will it give me enough go go juice to get my truck moving, but not just dump too much gas? where can i get a good carb kit and when i go to get it what do i tell them i need? it won't be the first carb i've gone through, but the others were stock to the vehicles...

sorry for all the questions

This takes a divorced choke . You need a coil and rod mounted to the intake over the exhaust passage in the head , which means you need an old factory or new aftermarket intake to use the stock choke . Thats how the pre-smog carbs worked . You could always use a cable with very little backyard engineering .

Late 70's had hot air choke , and 80's had electric choke .

Your throttle linkage will work with the right stud on the carb linkage .

Butterflies open and close with the throttle linkage all the time . The air door only opens and allows gas flow as needed with engine rpm . Most of the time you ride on the front barrels which are small giving good mileage .

You just give the parts store the numbers stamped on carb . I believe this one came off a smallblock , but I can run the numbers when I make it to the garage later .
