Quadrajet guys- help me out

I finally got off my ass and did some work on the carb on my K5.. freshly rebuilt Quadrajet from I-5 Automotive. Leaks gas out of the air horn.. so from what I'd read the culprit is likely the float level... Tore into it today and it appears the float level is okay, within a hair of 5/16" of an inch..

The fuel is leaking right in this area out of the gasket.. I also noticed fuel on the underside of the el-cheapo chrome air cleaner(still need to get a stock one).

The only other thing I found was both the primary metering rods kinda had a "bow" to them, not straight. Are they supposed to be this way?

Any ideas on the leaking?

The bow could of been from shipping . I bought mine from them nearly five years ago now , and other than the choke quit ( dirty dusty Arizona linkage , I won't touch it , starts every time ) , it runs fine .

See if you can have them send another , and a call tag to pick up the damaged one .

They offered to exchange it already so I think that is what I will do, just was hoping for it to be easy fix without returning it, guess not though, eh?

Good point..

On a side note other than the leaking I can't believe how much better it ran than the Edelbrock did Didn't fume the whole field out like it did before..

The metering rods should be perfectly straight, any bend in them will affect how the carb performs

You can roll the rods on a piece of glass to get them straight.

Dont mess with the carb. Take it back and get a new one. Dont try to fix a carb that some hack on the assembly line screwed up. You paid for a good carb you should get one.
