So like an idiot I got rid of the M4MED that came with my Jimmy cause it was cracked at the baseplate where the fitting goes into from the brake booster. Figured I'd use my Ebrock 1406 in the meantime till I get a new Q-jet.

Well after putting the new motor in and finally driving it I'm realizing the shift points are all jacked up and I totally forgot about the TV cable, and needing a kit to set it right using an Ebrock instead of the Q-jet. Looked at one it was around $150 or something, figured at that price I might as well buy a Q-jet.

So my question is which style/model/year should I look for that'll allow for the tv cable but not require all the emissions stuff that I no longer have. If I grab a 70s something model I don't think they had 700r4s back then. Think my best bet is to email cliffs high performance?

Or, does anyone make a respectable aftermarket Qjet? See one on jegs, and see a different style tv geometry corrector on summit for a lot cheaper than the tvmadeez one. Not sure my best direction to go. The jegs Qjet is $299.. but is a a pile'o crap?

Been a loooooong time, but the last Camaro I built originally had a 305 with q-jet and 700R4. When I swapped in the 350 with Edelbrock intake and carb I was able to use the factory throttle cable and TV cable bracket and just hooked the cables to the throttle lever on the carb with the supplied adapters, adjusted the TV cable and it worked perfectly. Didn't have to buy anything else.

Thinking back, maybe had to modify the bracket a little bit but nothing more than cutting something off or rebending one of the mounts. But it did fit and looked factory when I was done with it.

Maybe if your carb is old/used it is missing the proper cable hook up?

It was used, came with my old 86 Blazer. Went shopping today, saw the Ebrock tv cable adapter, called Ebrock they said they don't make one for a 1406/700r4, that the kit they DO make is for a Holley . Now the adapter on my 1406 appears to be this same exact Ebrock plate (made for a Holley). So, I ordered a kit from B&M today, should be in later this week.

Also talked to Cliff a couple times, might buy a Qjet outright. But they're backed up for 8 months. Saw this on CL though http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/pts/2212842056.html Not a steal by any means, but depending on how long it was rebuilt, how good of quality it's in wouldn't mind going that route. Especially if Cliff is backed up 8 months. But if the bracket I got from B&M fixed it all I can wait. Either way down the road I'm getting a Q-jet.

try this? I have one one the 1406 I'm getting ready to install...

Ya looking at that one from Jegs, the one from B&M, and my carb. I think it's on there already. Wondering if my tv cable itself is bad. It shifts sloppy, and I can't get the tv cable to adjust. Don't understand though, I remembering it shifting just fine when I bought it, and it had the Q-jet on it. When I press the button, and seat the slider, then open the throttle it doesn't ratchet out.

a new TV cable is @35-40 $$....cheap insurance for your new motor....

FWIW, my cable only comes back 1 or 2 "clicks" when I adjust it.

Maybe the distance between your bracket and the throttle linkage is too short. I have a diagram here, but it doesn't show the base dimension. Basically the valve in the transmission should limit out, making the tabbed part of the cable ratchet out until both are hitting WOT at the same time. If you can get the throttle to WOT without that happening, they are too close together.

Just might have to go that route. I looked online and adjusted it a slightly different way. Pulled the slider out, pulled open the throttle, and pushed in the slider till it stopped, so now it's a couple clicks out. It shifted different, seemingly better, but not great and firm. But then again, instead of having someone push on the gas pedal I was trying to do all three things at once which was pretty hard. Probably get a new TV cable just cause, assuming they can stretch over time.

I've seen that diagram a few times looking this up, but what is my distance? I've seen that diagram for refrence to the geometry. Think my best bet is to start with a new cable, if it clicks/ratchets and self-adjusts the proper way, then that's something to start out with.
