My Q-Jet came stock on my '86 K5. It has one 2-pin electrical connection on the top.

1st off, can anyone tell me which Q-Jet this is? From what I'm reading, there was an O2 sensor on this year...:confused::confused:

Where was this O2 sensor located? I haven't seen on on either of the exhaust manifolds. I do know that the distributor used the 5-pin module, which connected to the ESC module, and that the original 305 had a knock sensor in it.

Can this carb be used without any computer control?

If that's the only electrical connector, no it doesn't use an O2 sensor.

I've forgotten it's name already, it's essentially a temperature controlled accelerator pump as I recall.

To be honest, I have no idea how it would work without it hooked up. I don't know as I've ever seen a wiring diagram with that in it, though I do have an '86 diagram I could look for it. I suspect it's a 12V power wire, grounded through a switch in the thermostat housing.

The only trucks to get electronic carbs (CCC) were the california ones. If it was electronic, there would also be a 3-wire throttle position sensor.

That funny 2-wire object is a solenoid inside the carb. It is powered through a temperature switch so that it is activated only when the engine is cold. It changes the acceleration enrichment circuit to increase the volume of the "pump shot". From what I understand, the shot of gas is supposed to be about twice as large as normal.

Interesting... Well, regardless, that carb needs a rebuild. I was thinking of replacing it. Which Q-Jet would be right for a 350, that uses an electric choke?

If you do decide to replace it, you might want to check JEG'S. They have a replacement carb. I installed one on my CA '85 Burb. It works, and I passed SMOG.

I'll do it... thanks.

BTW, are the Holley Q-Jet replacements any good? I've heard good things about the Edelbrocks, but they're no longer in production :(
