My carb needs rebuilt/replaced and Im thinking Im gonna just stick with a Quadrajet instead of changing the intake and getting Truck Avenger and I have a couple questions. What kind of experiences have yall had with rebuilding one or having one rebuilt and about what price range am I looking at if I go that route? Also if I saved my money to buy one what seem to be some of the better ones? I am a college student and trying to do it right but also not break the bank. I have a 76 Blazer with 350 that was rebuilt with all GM Performance pats. One other question, I have searched through here and found that it seems to be about split down the middle about Quadrajets being great offroad or being nothing but a piece of scrap metal hanging off your engine, is it more or less in getting it tuned just right or are there significant problems in its design that limit its offrad ability? Thanks for the help.

Ok, for one , I'm not a carb guy but the QUADRAJET on my 75' K-5 has been a good carb. Had it rebuilt once by a shop who really knows them and it still works fine. He said they are good for engines that are stock to mildly built. In my case, it works well on angles, but so does the TRUCK AVENGER so what way should you go???...I'd do a little reseach in your area to find a shop that is savvy with the carb you have[ doesn't hurt to look around and ask questions] you'll find a good place ,and it cheaper than a neww carb that still might need to be adjusted. Then if you like the truck you own save your cash for a good aftermarket fuel-injection system, cause after all that is the most efficent way to go.

Working correctly, Quadrajets really have no peer IMO. They are good at everything. They may not be GREAT at everything, but as a general carb, they do everything well. Angless, power, economy, you name it, they do it.

Rebuild kits are less than $25, the only thing you might want to pay someone to do is to bush the primary throttle shaft. You need to get the carb apart to REALLY see if it needs it, but from my experience, at least 75% do, depending on age and use of course. You can do that yourself, but it requires a special drill bit ("J" as I recall) and then the bushings, which aren't necessarily easy to find.

Other than that, it's a pretty simple affair. Should be lots of articles online on how to do it.
