How many quarts of oil does my stock 90Jimmy (5.7 tbi) hold? My dipstick is way off. Can I buy a correct dipstick from any parts place or do I have fix the correct length myself?

For quite some time you could get the dipsticks from the dealer. Seems that they are slowly being disco'd as well, but it can't hurt to call and ask. If they say they are discontinued, ask for the part number. Then plug it into someplace like gmpartsdirect.com

If they can't or won't give you the part number, they are lying, which unfortunately speaks to the general incompetence of many parts counter folks, at least GM.

If they say its disco'd and can give you a part number, it's a good bet they are right. For some reason dipsticks seemed to be one of those reasonably priced items from GM, whereas things like a disk brake rotor for the same vehicle would be outrageously expensive.

agreed with this my local gm parts guys are so lazy if i call and need to order parts for something that they cant just punch the last 8 of the vin in the computer, they tell me they cant get it. such a pita, then u ask em for someone else and they get all pissy on you.

and this is me ordering parts for the shop, u would think they would give it a try just because we are always doing business with em.
