Has anybody had any experience with Motive Gear carriers? I have read a few reviews that they where not so great. Some of the reviews I read about parts I am interested in I think are sometimes from idiots that did not know what they where doing. I got a set of 5.13:1 gears for my 14-Bolt, and I was considering just running them on my G80 14-Bolt, which works just fine right now, but this truck has 38" tires. If I got into a situation where I had to gun it, the Gov-Loc could turn into a Gov-Bomb.

I need an open carrier so I can get a locker that will handle 38" tires and 5.13:1 gears. My truck spends about 80% road driving, and only 20% light to moderate wheeling. I do not want to spend $350 to $450 on an open carrier like an AAM or Yukon. The Motive Gear one is only about $175. Getting one out of a junk yard is impossible because most 14-bolts come with a G80. On the rare occasion a 14-Bolt with an open carrier hits the junk yard it is "Gone in 60 Seconds".

After doing some research I may go with one of these Yukon Dura Grip limited slip carrier. I can get one for just under $500 + plus free shipping.

Stock gov-loc for 14ff are much stronger than the rest . I use to run one behind a built 400 sbc and 38" tsl swampers no problems mud and snow . I hated the detroit for street driving had it in for 6 months . Part of that was snow season and it made driving in the snow a 4wd only thing compared to a 2wd with gov-loc thing .

And that unit you posted pics of is a copy of a gov-loc .

What carrier split did you get the gears for ? I have a brand new gm gov-loc for 4.56-up .

I love my 14ff rears with a good gov-loc unit for street and play .

I will echo @sweetk30 , the 14bff gov loc is better for what you do.

The Gov-Loc it is then. My Gov-Loc is a 4.10 and down. I have a set of thick cut gears.
