Hey guys, I've got a 72 blazer that I'm going to be putting an sm465/205 in that currently has th350/205. I was wondering if anyone knew if the crossmember will remain the same or if I will need a new one. If I do need a new one, does anyone have one? Also, does anyone have a tranny hump cover for a 4speed 4x4? I have a nice auto 4x4 I could trade, or just buy. Let me know.

The 465 swap should be pretty straight forward as long as it is the older racetrack parttern adapter, the newer round pattern adapters are longer IIRC. The crossmember should be able to stay in the same place and reuse your driveshafts.

You can just cut a hole in your existing tranny cover, they are usually dimpled where the shifter boot goes, you'll need to remove it anyway to make the tranny swap easier.

sweet, thanks a lot. Gettin ready to swap parts and was just looking for as much info as I could get before I started just so I could get r done as quick as possible. Thanks again

I'll be interested to see if the orginal crossmember fits, as I am doing the same swap in my 70. I have the bellhousing, pressure plate, clutch, all ready to go....just need to bolt in the tranny. I bolted the crossmember back into the original position and it looks like it will bolt right in due to the 465/205 adapter being a couple of inches longer than the 350/205 combo. As far as I know these blazers came with both combos and I can't see why they would have different X-member mounting positions. If you get yours together before mine let me know!

Absolutely. I'm getting mine all prepped. Hopefully it will be in by next week. I have to clean up the tranny/case I bought and just need to buy a clutch kit and flywheel and throw it all in there. The tranny I bought came out of a 78 1ton so the speedo cable exits the tailshaft housing on the opposite side, and the front driveshaft yoke is different, but aside from those two swaps it looks like everything should go in really smoothly (knock on wood). I'll let you know...

I ended up swapping in my SM465 today....pretty straightforward but major PIA to get the splines lined up using two floor jacks. I was unable to use the automatic crossmember as it sits too low to connect to the 465 adaptor. Fortunately I got the 465 crossmember as I bought the tranny transfer case combo. It bolts under the frame rail instead of over as was only slighty off of the original postion. I just drilled new holes and it bolted right up. The next problem will be if the 205 bracket to the frame can stay in the same place or if I will have to relocate that as well.

That's kinda interesting. Mine fit perfectly, I just had hydraulic problems, but mine is on the road finally too.
