Question about a sender.

What is the sender that is right infront of the starter? I was replacing my starter today and I saw this sending unit with a wire connected to it. Then I saw that that wire is cut clean threw. Is this a sender for the oil pressure gauge? My oil pressure gauge doesn't work right, and I am wondering if this is the problem. My truck is an 85 GMC with 350.

I don,t know where is the oil sender in the gas engine.But how is the sender? Has it a cilinder form and is close to 2 1/2" long and has a single therminal in the extreme?
Then is The oil pressure sender.

The oil pressure sender is beside the distributor.

Ok, that makes sense. Now I know why it is cut clean then. I am no longer running the factory ESC module that works with a knock sensor. That is why it is disconnected. Thanks

it's a knock sensor and it tells the computer when you throttle up and down to advance or decrease the ammount of timing to give the motor i think... /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Actually, brother, a knock sensor "hears" if your engine is pinging and sends a signal to the ESC. The ESC retards the timing to eliminate the ping.

My ESC is disconnected, but I'm not sure if I pulled the knock sensor or not. I'm betting I didn't since I don't know where it's located on the block!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It's an oil pressure sender if its right above the oil filter and its got a cone shape guard around it. This went bad on mine and was actually leaking oil. Replaced it and my guage worked again.
