question about engine codes

my service engine soon light will come on sometimes for about 30 secs after truck is started..it usually goes off once truck is started. is this code saved in the puter or do i have to wait for it to stay on? only reason i wondering is because sometimes when i start truck it will idle too high and i cant figure out why

It's stored in your ECM until you disconnect the battery and clear it. It doesn't matter if the light blips on for 1 second or stays on, the code will be stored.
