so to give some detail the jimmy was running fine, i parked it and she turns over but wouldnt start upon investigating(i have a hatch cut above my fuel tank) i notived one of the wires purple or pinkish i think on the sending unit was barley hanging on looked as though it had been chewed through pretty close to the sending unit i but connected it back togeather but she still wont start i have a multi-meter but im not sure what the ohm should be on it if its working(im very new to this) ive been told it might be the fuel pump but i had recently replaced that and the distributor, and it was running fine literlly over night she just wont start, any help would be appreciated

The purple wire is just the going to the fuel gauge to tell it how much fuel you have. Has nothing to do with whether your truck runs or not. The grey wire is the power to the pump. Also, check the ground strap to make sure it has a good connection, you can check by temporarily connecting a wire from bare metal on the tank to bare metal on the frame.

How long did you have it parked? Sounds like just overnight. I’m tempted to think it was some sort of rodent chewing wires. Might want to check all your wires for other shorts.

Your multimeter should check continuity. If digital, its the setting that buzzes when you connect the two probes together. Touch bare metal on the frame and the tank, if it buzzes, the ground is good. Not necessarily 100%, but if a weak ground often the buzzing will be intermittent.

Pump circuit is real easy to test though. Relay under the hood will have a red wire hanging off it. Connect that wire to battery 12V, and the pump SHOULD run until you disconnect it. If it runs that way, you need to test for spark.
