Question About Gear Sets for GM Dana-60/14-Bolt Diffs.

I agree with 4.88 for your application.

After reading some of the replies I have been talked into the 5.13's because this truck runs about 60% stop and go traffic driving, and about 30% Interstate driving, and about 10% light off road driving. Those 5.13's would help out a lot in stop and go traffic driving.

@1-ton I have a local guy that is super competitive on parts. Jake at Rigid Axle. PM for his cell number if you want to get pricing.

Here's his website: https://www.rigidaxle.com/

Remember, it's your truck you do what YOU want :waytogo:

I just Googled those guys. I had never heard of them before. They are located in the LVMS industrial park. I was looking at US Standard Gear ring and pinions. They are the sub-standard gears made by Yukon that they sell at half the price of their premium gear.

P.S. How was BB19?

Jake might surprise you on costs, it's worth a quote from him. BB19 was good. Drove Ed crazy because I had food poisoning right before we left.

You should post that in the carnage thread along with some of the other injuries that happened at BB19. :D

I was looking at their web site. They are a little more spendy ($425.00 for a 14-Bolt / 5.13 gear set change kit) that this one one guy in Michigan that sells the US Standard Gear sets. I was thinking of having somebody do the gear installs in my truck though. They look like they do service work as well.

This place...Ron's Machining Service in Michigan has a complete 5.13 gear change kit for $600. Both front Dana-60 and Rear 14-Bolt.

The ring & pinion installation kits come from a company called Elite Gear out of the state of Michigan. The same state as Ron's Machine Service. Thank for the tip on that 14-Bolt crush sleeve eliminator kit.

yep. little longer to set up but if the yoke is loose its 1 of 3 things . nut backed off / bearing is dead / pinion broke . also pinion yoke seal change later in life much more fun of a job over possible pita job .

i did one with a crush sleeve and one with a eliminator kit . . . no more crush sleeve for me .

There is definitely a little excessive back lash (not super crazy) on my 14-Bolt. With about 300,000 miles on the original 14-Bolt diff...my guess is the pinion bearing is a little on the worn side.
