The fan runs after the car is shut off, is this normal?

My mom's 2001 Nissan Altima do that. It will kick them on sometimes too before the car is started if it has been running recently.

lol, its normal for the fan to go on, when the water/coolant is at normal operating temp it may be around 200 deg, and when you shut the motor off it may go up another 20 or 30 deg, the fan probbly has some kind of thermostat that switches it on when the temps get a little higher, my buddys hondud does the same thing

How long does it run after the car is shut off?
It should be no more that 5min. In rare instances the fan timer unit will fail and run the fans till the battery dies. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif
