hey all so I broke the tiny little plastic tip off my rear tailgate window regulator cable. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could just get the little plastic tip or if I even needed it. I haven’t tried to attach it yet as I was wanting to make sure.

Anyone happen to know if it’s needed and if so where I could just get the little tip peice?

Thanks again guys for all your help.

Been years since I’ve been inside the gate, got any pics of what you’re referring to?

Is this the cable that goes from motor to regulator. If so is it the original cable. It might be better off changing to new cable.

I’ve been going into ace hardware a lot lately during my resto on my 84 and they have a lot of good stuff I’ve found that have come in handy.. just a thought

I'm not familiar with the cable in question, but it may be possible to have a metal eyelet crimped on it if its like an aircraft cable ,used on garage doors,winches,etc..some hardware stores have the eyelets and hydraulic crimper ,looks like a bottle jack and they can crimp it for you..

I used to do that at one parts store I worked at,they had a hydraulic hose maker and crimper machine--we did a lot of cables for tree guys and tow trucks..on those larger cables we used a steel guide and wrapped the cable around it and crimped the clamp thing on..

New cables would be best of course, but if they were very hard to get or costly, sometimes you must fix the originals if possible..

This eylet is similar to what we used on smaller cables, but they crimped on,and looked more like a solderless terminal for wires only made of whatever the crimps are, some kind of softer teel..just showing the picture to give you an idea.cable eyelet.png

It would be cool if they made that stuff in a copper for battery cables and grounds.

We did crimp lugs intended for welding cable onto bulk lengths of welding cable,to make heavy duty battery cables for some truckers and construction equipment..you had to use a gentle touch on the machine or it'd just smash them flat though!..

I made my own tailgate cables for an El-Camino I had when I worked there--was nice having the hydraulic hose machine ,when a plow hose failed on my truck,I'd just plow the parking lot for free in exchange for the hose..lots of times a customer would bring in long hoses off a ramp truck and they had us make a whole new one if one spot got damaged, told us to dispose of the old hose--that was a good source of free hose ,good enough for my needs!..

Yeah I’m just going to replace the entire cable. Thank you guys for the help and info.
