Question about Yukon Hardcore hubs, installing problem

Trying to install these darn things but have hit a snag. After putting them mostly together and about to do the dial, I've noticed there is nothing holding the axle shafts out. Meaning: the stub shaft spindle seal has no reason to stay against the spindle. In Yukon's instruction (which I've followed to a T) the end result is the same. I can see it in the pictures. There is about a 3/16" gap between the circle clip and the flange.

I think pictures work best. Here are a couple. The black flange cannot go out any further because the dial hardware and circle clip won't allow it. Seems like it needs another small spacer, could be nylon.

Never worked on that model, but even if the clip was against the flange, what would hold the flange out?
On a couple of hubs I have worked on, the center piece that the axle goes through was free to move in and out some anyway.

I never liked that design, but could not figure out how to hold the axle and flange piece out because there was not a lot it could press against.

I once had a machine shop build me a nylon washer with a hole in the center that the axle could go through, a groove in the back side that the edge of the hollow spindle fit in.

Then I had a spring that would bear on the inside back of the center flange on that end and against the washer on the other.
It was just large enough to fit around the axle.

It did not see any wear until the axle turned, then the nylon was self lubricating to a certain extent.

It seemed to help with the spindle bearings a little, but the washer wore through and the chunks caused one of the hubs to not lock when I needed it.

I had better luck with a spindle greaser adapter. It screwed onto the hollow spindle over the axle and let me pump grease all the way through and out the back of the spindle.
This filled the spindle with grease and seemed to help keep water out of the hub, wheel bearings and spindle bearings.
 
Aftermarket stubs too long??

One solution could be to install D60 carrier bearing races for the inner wheel bearings, this will move the hub assembly outboard by about 1/8".
 
The setup has a giant spring behind the slug that pushes it out against the rest of the hardware. If the stub shaft was shorter or the ring groove was closer, it would work. The shafts and lockouts are both Yukon. :doah:
 
Maybe someone like Kurt (DIY4x) would cut you a washer or spacer to use under the clip.
 
Just got back from OSH, I love that place.

Started out looking for big washers.
Then electrical ring stuff to use as a washer.
Then plastic washer things.
Then realized an O-ring just might be perfect.
Bought a couple sizes to try (cause they weren't exactly what I wanted)
Got home, remembered I already have a CASE of O-rings, and found the PERFECT one :doah::doah::doah::doah:

The slug, O-ring, shaft, and clip all rotate with each other, so I don't foresee the O-ring getting shredded. The size is perfect.... 1.5" ID and 1/8" thick. The gap I'm working with never gets smaller than 1/8" and really doesn't move at all with knuckle movement. So the O-ring should be good. If my guesstimation is wrong, the axle shaft will just squeaze the crap out of the ring, giving it a little play. :waytogo:

Hmm I have the same yukon hubs and 35 spline stubs and don't remember having to do that.

when you have the dial off next, pull the stub forward and see if there's any gap. I haven't put the dials on yet, so they my actually hit and want to push the shafts inward. That would cause the spindle seals to always be open, noneffective. Before these hubs, I only ran ECGS drive flanges. For 2wd, I kept it empty and ran factory caps.

Finished install and test drive yesterday. Dials turn easily, full engagement, nothing noticeably wrong.
