Hi! & thx for yer help!

A local 4x4 club is do'n a mass buy on military surplus tires for $75 ea

My truck is a 1986 m1008 5/4 ton 4x4 k30 pickup

It's 100% stock as far as suspension and is clearing 33" tires no problem as it sits.

CAN I simply add a set of leveling blocks up front and trim the fenders & make it?? Or will I need a lift all around no question to clear 37"s???

FYI-
I need it to be road worthy still as it will be my DD. I don't want to worry about developing bump steer/death wobble or drop pitman arms etc etc etc

Last but not least, IF I can get away with simply leveling the front and trim'n the fenders, do they make flare kits that will cover the raw edges of the now cut fenders???

Thx once mor & SRY it was nearly a F'n book size post...
:pimp:

Leveling blocks?

If you mean a traditional lift block, they are fairly scary in the rear but are very bad juju :shame: in the front. The extra torque of the steering axle can make them pop out at the most inopportune moments.

Now, there are some block-like options for the front, namely ORD's "zero rates" or DIY4X's "EZ Inch" or the like, which bolt into the spring pack and lift it without changing the spring rate (thus the name.) These are safe for front use.

But to fit 37"s, I think you'll be doing some pretty serious hacking of the fenders, not just trimming. Certainly the off-the-shelf flare kits wouldn't fit at that point, so you're looking at the JC Whitney generic rolls of rubber stuff, which always reminds me of kitchen baseboard you put over the linoleum :haha:

Or just weld the sheetmetal back together, maybe roll a 1/4" or 3/8" rod around the edge, and call it good.

Stock suspension sounds like

Just cut, they fit.

I have done 38x12.5s swampers on a stock blazer 11r 16s (just over 38" tall) on a stock blazer.

Did 36" swamper bias plys on my BILs and didn't even have to trim anything in the rear

Some one on here just recently put 11r16s on his crew cab

37" radials off the hummers for 75 is basicly the going rate. not huge savings. unless like new take offs or new.

never do blocks in the front.

4" lift and some trimming will get you there.

37" military tires with 4" lift and some trimming. $75/each should get you a 90% or better tread set.

I had the 36" HMMWV bias plies on stock Dodge 16.5's on my M1008. Just trimming in the front, mainly at the bottom of the rear of the wheel well. You'll need to get a longer bolt for the d-side steering stop in order to keep the tire off of the drag link when turning hard right. Whoops.

If I had to do it again I'd put a zero rate under the front and space the axle forward an inch or so. That'd keep the tires off of the fenders well.

Nothing in the rear really.

took the Chalet camper off. haven't decided if I'm going to shorten the bumper, or put a floor on what's left and use it to haul stuff.

are you talking about zerorates when you say leveling blocks?
you can bolt those to the front leaves to add an inch. That would help lessen the amount of trimming needed, which you will need.

Im glad this came up. I have a guy trying to sell me some new ones for 100 each. Maybe ill bite. But he has brand new hummer bead locks with run flats also, and don't know what to offer him for all

Think he's talking about the 37" HMMWV radials.

brand new or even 90% 37" radials and close to you for 100 each why the heck not.

and dont forget ez-inch or zero rate is cheep. but will need new ubolts and also possible if you dont wana fab new top plates for the new position of the center pin.

Stock blazer with 11r16s

They are tall but a bit narrower. I would get some ez inches for sure

you mean like this?
a 1 ton is atleast 2" taller than a k5. so they fit alot better
11.0"x16" (38.5") no rubbing.

i bet with a standard offset 16.5" wheel a 37 will rub the drag link end. so some steering stop adjustment will probably be needed.

You sure about the 1 ton being taller?

Yes, the 37's will rub on a stock 16.5" rim. I had to replace my drag links thanks to mine.

frame is taller.

axle is bigger = sits taller than 1/2 and 3/4 ton.

i swaped a 60 in a 1/2 ton frame and got just over 1" lift alone.
