Is it common for your suppliers to pay for labour or towes when new parts fail? The reason I ask is I just had a 5 day old distributor calf. It was a two hour tow off the trails by a fellow wheeler and a $130 tow to my house from the side of the road. I'm gonna try to get some tow money out of them but I just don't know if I should really force the issue.

Don't worry about commenting. I doubt any of you work for this company it's only in B.C.

I've been in the repair business for a lot of years and it is uncommon for parts stores to pay for a tow and almost unheard of for them to pay labor, heck it can sometimes be tough to get them to warranty their junk.

I've worked in parts for over 20 yrs and I've never seen any company pay for labor or tow fees on anything other than major items such as a reman engine or trans. If it's a big chain company you might find a manager that will help on some of the tow cost but that would only be if they have a strong customer satisfaction policy.

Yea I understand it's not the parts stores fault just like it's not a shops fault when a part fails. I'm still gonna try. This was unreasonable for a week olddistributor. The distributor bushings went tight enough to retard the timming to the point that it was jamed against the coil and couldn't retard any more.I guess I'm lucky it didn't completely seize and break. The ****ty thing is I had a spare distributor but it was dark, cold and the way it was poping, I was pretty sure the timing chain jumped.

My fault for assuming without having a good look on the trail.

In my experiance, engines are the only part that you will get this kind of help with. My work vehicle just got a new crate motor from ford. When it turned out to be junk, ford paid to have it shipped to a dealer and replaced a second time. I worked at a NAPA about ten years ago. Then, we used to pay for labor only for bad engines. But, it took a Butt load of paper to get it accomplished.

i work for Oreillys and unless the part that failed was installed by a shop or certified mechanic id almost say with 100% certainty that your outta luck getting any kind of reimbursment for towing or labor

Well I am a licensed mechanic but beacuase of the size of the corporation I work for I have little say in who our parts come from, so the threat of loosing an account doesn't really come in to play. I was in today after hours and they gave me the # of the sales rep who I have never met. It sounds promissing.

Well I didn't get cash back but they gave me a bunch of parts at their cost wich saved me a ton more than the 130 I spent on the tow.
By the way I got chromo 35 spline outers and warn premiums. I wasn't gonna go with the premiums but the price was too good. I'll update if they break.

i do as well...and thats about right...

i have seen 3, MAYBE 4 labor claims actually be filed...and i know of one that was not accepted, and all were for large chain shops...
