Question for the folks not filling out their Profiles

I am not chastising anyone. As an American fighting man that has still not spent a summer with my kids since they were born because of one conflict or another I am making a choice. After all that's what I'm protecting, right? Why would you tell me I'm making the wrong choice? Just as someone chooses not to fill in their profile I may choose not to share my knowledge on that particular subject. My profile has all area's filled in because I'm willing to help fellow K5er's even if they call me at home. That also is my choice. I wouldn't expect everyone to be that friendly but if they were I might even be out of a job. After all if everyone in the world were friends I wouldn't have a job and you wouldn't have served your country. You say you fought for things like Freedom of Choice...the privacy act(only for SSN) and the Bill of Rights, then if someone doesn't want to respond to a post they should have that right without being criticised for that decision. The person that doesn't want to fill in their profile has the same right to not be criticised for it. I believe in the same things as you Eagle or I wouldn't have sacrificed my family life for a lousy E-5 wage. My schedule from 1 Jun to 1 Oct only has me home for 11 days this summer. That takes dedication towards your beliefs. You should know this after serving for so long. So now I'll get off my soap box about equal rights. I still believe in knowing the person's name that I'm talking to.

That e-mail was not directed at you specificly, it was to those earlier. I was in Vietnam in 70-72. I flew medivacs on a CH-46, I was wounded twice and received a Bonze star and a Silver star. The last wound , I took a AK-47 round through the knee and was ceremoniously retired.
One thing I have noticed about this forem is there is an awful lot of young folks. With ideas I just can't accept. Like the one that said if they won't fill the profile out then we won't speak to them. Who are they to dictate? This is an open forum you have the right to speak or hold your tongue, just as you have the right to fill out the profile or not.If the folks in charge deem it neccessary to validate the completion of the profile as a prerequiset to participating in this forum then it would be different. But for folks to decide that just because other folks won't fill in personal information they would not share information with them on a public forum is ludicrist.
And no Sgt. you do not believe in the same things I do, I am a Mason, I believe in God and treating everyone equal with no reservations, I respect everyones decision. And just because they decide not to fill the profile in does not mean a thing to me. I will still talk with them because I respect their decision, I will not impose sanctions just because their decision is different then mine.
And I look forward to the day you don't have a job, and folks are friendly world wide, I can only imagine a world at peace where everyone gets along regardless of color , creed , and personal decisions. And as far as your personal sacrifice with the military, I remember an old Sgt Major in the Marines once told me as a young Lt., there are no victims only volunteers.

Eagle86,I totally agree.I come to this site everyday,at least twice.I don't post much but I look and learn. That is the reason i come...TO LEARN,and possibly pass on some of my limited 4x knowledge to help other K5 lovers. If I post a question I hope to get some replies for help,if nobody can help...fine.I don't see the sense in ignoring a request for help because someone doesn't have their profile filled out.To make a "pact" ignoring these people is almost,if not definitely, discrimination and is absoutely unacceptable.
If I can help ANYONE I will!

Yes,I have driven over a F*&d lately!

I an understand the paranoia with someone getting your info and such, but this is a really tight and friendly board and group and I would love to know of fellow Oregonians on ColoradoK5. I wonder now when I pull up behind or beside a blazer are they a member of CO K5? It would also be a blast to go four wheeling with nothing but blazers. Have you ever gone wheeling with a bunch of Jeeps.. Everytime they pick a trail its alittle to narrow for a Blazer and you have to turnaround. It would be nice to go with a group of full size rigs on full size runs.

WOW! Sorry to all that I seem to have opened a can of worms. My point at least was not to pry into anyones life, learn dirty little secrets, or anything like that. All I was asking was WHY? Simple question. No one has to fill out anything, but at least put the darn year Blazer you drive in your profile. Is that too much to ask? Please forgive me for starting this pissing contest, I meant no harm. Just want to see what y'all are driving and maybe a first name. I for one will not ignore you just because you choose to remain private, that is your RIGHT as an American.

Yeah, I thought it was kind of funny. Love the Simpsons too, and watch them every night. Laugh all the time!

I was just tooling around the Internet and searching for animated gifs and stumbled onto it. Some guy had a sight full of them. Figured the pic in our profile could display anything, so tried the animated gif and it worked!

Hope it loads up quick for the dial-up folks. Should cache it after the first time so it loads up quick every other time.

Wow! Eagle, I agree with you on some levels but not all. Of course you, as well as everyone else, are entitled to my opinion! (ha-just kidding, and trying to break the tention!!)

Here's the way I look at it. YES this is a public forum, but to me it's more of a public place that we've all come to share our common thoughts and interests. Like a cool cyber-bar or something. Can you imagine having gone to a bar for a few months and welcoming in everyone, and we're all Blazer fanatics? That is what this place is. And then though there are just some folks who choose to sit at a table instead of pulling up a stool. No problem, but the fun is right there at the bar. I see this board as a bunch of friends, from around the globe no less, that all want to be able to share that same enthusiasm as all the rest of the fellow enthusiastic folks. For the folks who want to just read and reply once in a while, thats fine but you can't tell me that they will feel the same feeling of frienship as those who are willing to share more with each other. Eagle, I'm a church going God fearing man also, but I don't see what it has to do with this board. When I come here to read new or old posts I do enjoy looking up someones profile to see where they are from or to relate the answer of their quesiton to something I might know about their town or their year rig whatever.

All I'm trying to say is it's a heck of a lot easier to keep friendships with those folks who are willing to share. I've changed my mind in that I'll reply to anyone who I can lend a helpful hand with, but at the same time I can't imagine those same folks, with no profile filled out, will become part of the community that we're all trying to build here.

Now let's all hold hands and sing coom-ba-yah or something!

That, my friend is the gist of the conversation, especially when you said you changed your mind and would help anyone wether they filled it out or not. BRAVO...
That is all I was after in the first place...unilateral help independant of personal choice.
Thank you for being so eloquent, anything I can do to help just let me know....
And I have a few more sites for you to check out...

After reading how in depth this has become. I did not realize this was going to be so personal and political.

If you don't want to fill out any info that is fine. I just like knowing a little about the rig and where the person is coming from.

I look at the profile to see where they are from, their rig, and their name.

But we all love K5's so any help is good help

Just my opinion, but you know what opinions are like.

I'm gonna have to agree, in part, with my fellow Marine on this one. I haven't heard a shot fired in anger in my 7 years of service, but I still feel that our rights to say or not to say, to believe or not to believe, to do or not to do, is our RIGHT as American citizens. If you choose not to respond to someone because they haven't filled out their profile, then be that way. It's your right. Maybe the person whose profile isn't filled out is just a private person. Maybe they had a bad experience on the web when someone got info from the web to use against them. Whatever the case may be, it is THEIR right to not fill that info out, just as it is your right to not answer their questions.

Enjoy your rights. Hundreds of thousands have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may still have them.

I'm through. I'll step down from my soapbox now.

So many ideas, so little money...

The post of the profil was partly due to the problems that were happening on the old board. This isn't a problem as much anymore due to the new board you have to register too in the first place. So they have givin information already. I think the profile is a way for the other people to see who they are talking with. Like Steve88 said it's like a bar that we all are at, but your cann't see the person sitting across from you. But you know them in other ways. I use to keep the Pic Page open also so I could look at the truck of someone and know if I talk to them about something befor. It does help some of us. If they don't want to do it it is their choice, but for me it does help me since I can't put a face with the post, I put the Truck with the Post.
