I have a line on an LT1 (whole camaro actually) and was thinking of putting it in the blazer instead of trying to piece together a TPI setup like I had planned. The only concern I have is the optispark system. I love mud and water and I'm concerned that it would get water in it easily causing reliability issues on the trail. Please give me your personal or known to be true experiences with this setup.

Ok, that was some very good info Pauly, thanks. Now I know how to take care of the vent hole situation, but does anyone using this setup still have problems with water getting through the cap?

If it's a '95 or newer it's already got the vented opti. Water and opti isn't good, regardless. Check out camaroz28.com for good info. There are two different ign systems that deal well with the opti problem. Search that site on LTCC and you'll find threads on both. MSD makes an upgraded opti that's pretty good, as well. http://www.geocities.com/reilym/LTCC/

How much would going with the LT1 cost you, vs going with an LSx motor?

Seems to me if you want a newer motor, the LT's should be bypassed and go straight to the LS, if you can afford it. IMO anyways. The LS motors are just better all around.

Agreed.

I agree, but I can get the whole car for for around 300.00 worth of parts I'm swapping. I'm just stuck as to building my 4 bolt main roller setup I currently have and spending the money to convert to TPI or just using the LT1 and selling off my current engine.

Tough call then. IIRC, the LT1 wasn't much different in the block area (same bore, stroke) but the heads, induction, and ignition setups were.

Short of the top end, a well tuned TPI setup with good heads is *probably* fairly close in performance, but I would sure think that no matter how well redesigned, that optispark would cause problems in a truck that you expect to get wet.

Put the camaro onto your blazer, you won't do it! hah...

I'd go with the ls1 because they run very well, that or just build something carbed for it, but i'm old school, I can't stand tpi, tbi, or any of that stuff. Kinda contradicted myself, but yeah hah...

Your right, I won't:D

Won't go carbed cause I like reliability and a truck that doesn't die at extreme angles.

Can't get an LS motor for 300.00.
