What I have is a '89 1/2t chevy 4x4. What I was wondering is if they came with a 400 or not. I didn't think chevy came out with a EFI 400 but could be wrong. A mechainic that said it was but I wanted to call BS. Is it possible that it could be a 400? Whats the best way to tell besides running the numbers?

And yes i did search for about 3 hrs last night and between CK5, pirate, and google i just ended up w/ more questions and ideas :doah:.

Nope, no 400. 89 blazer, or truck? Either way, its a 350 or 305.

Someone could have built a 383 which uses 400 balancer and flexplate and your mechanic might have seen the 400 items and thought it was a 400. This of course is assuming that a 383 was built with the 2 piece rear main seal engine and still being externally balanced.

1980 was the last year for 400 small blocks. A 400 is easy to identify (unless like 4x4High said, someone used an externally balanced crank to make a stroker) because there will be notch in the harmonic balancer on the backside (towards the timing cover). There is a 400 in the '86 K10 I am working on, I could take a picture if you wanted.
