My friend has a m1009 4" lift 10b with 4.10 gears. I think. 35" tires. th400 went. now has a sm465/205 out of a 87 k30. never any problems with the th400. never broke a thing. now with the sm465 he just lost his 3 rear axle shaft.

does it put more power to the rear? i know what i mean. just not sure how to explain it.

thanks for the help

first gear is deeper, so yes he's now applying more force than before.

iirc...

th400 = 2.48:1

sm465 = 4.55:1

that's a BIG difference

i think theres no "shock" absorbing when you have a standard, its all turning but with an auto, you have a little bit of "shock" absorbing in the tranny...im not positive but its just what i think it could be

Yes your friends transmission swap multiplied his output torque, time for an axle upgrade. Or pull a trailer full of axle shafts with you on your outings...

My shortbox with a SM465 came with a 1350 rear ujoint where I am pretty sure the norm was a 1310. I wonder if the SM465 is the reason why.
