kinda new to it. went to NC for a truck my dad got.(i love southern girls) anyway, on the way back was going about 50-55 mph. i was in a M1031. trailer is rated for 7k. 20 ft long if that matters. truck is long. i thought it would be around 7k. wrong. paperwork said about 8800. had to get it home. hers what i dont get. little over 55 i would say. the trailer would start waving in the lane. not sure what to call it. i know i was overloaded. is that why?

thanks

that is called sway. my trailer does it when empty and over 55 mph because my tongue weight is to low. you probably had the truck to far back on the trailer. towing is a fine art.

a 7K trailer is useless for towing anything more then a car. 7K is the total weight the trailer and its load can weigh. the trailer probably weighs 1500-2000 lbs depending on the materials its made out of. so that leaves you about 5000-5500 payload capacity. sell the trailer and get a 10K. or swap some 5K axles and springs under your trailer and get it reregistered.

In the mean time go get your trailer weighed so you know what your limits are. overweight tickets are very expensive.

Keep in mind if you are running the military tires on it they are not rated for anything over 55.

can someone tell my a good trailer company to look at? thanks

these guys know there stuff and have a good size inventory. there shop is setup with everything you need to build a trailer. they build their aluminum ones right there.

I was going to get a 20 ft Belmont deckover from them but got a sweet deal from my friend on his used one.

I've heard this is a common misconception...

Supposedly the military tires are rated at 55mph if you're at their maximum load rating which on a civilian setup we are nowhere near the military tire's max ratings... again I'm not 100% sure of this but thats what I've read...

sweet thanks, good timing about two put my other two up for sale. need to find out how far from dirty jersey they are.
