Does the new body style up to 95 (tbi) have the stand alone controller for the 4l80e? like the 89-91 1 tons did?

Early diesels were the only 4L80E app's that had standalone controllers. All the others (including say, a '91 454 R/V3500) used specific PCM's/programming that handled the transmission functions.

Yes. Call me right now if you can, we can make sure were talkin same stuff.
1-800-571-7899, ask for Cary. EDIT -- on 1/2 and 3/4 ton subs it IS '91 only.

Well I found out I can use the diesel harness, but in searching I have found issues with shifting because of the diesel and different shift points. can anyone verify this?

I can verify that the diesels used much different shift points *before* the computer controlled trans, I don't see why it would be any different with a 4L80E.

Power is made much lower with a diesel, so they shift sooner.

I personally have seen nothing to reprogram the controllers. I'd wager it could be done with the gas controllers since they are "standard" ECM's which are normally "tuned", but I have no idea what kind of interface, if any, the standalone 4L80E controller has. It probably has something for diagnosis, but again, I've seen nothing about it if it exists.

If the 5 year span of standalone controllers is correct, you'd think that would be enough to generate some interest in modifying it. You might try a google search.

There is a post I was involved with awhile back on here regarding the 4L80E and control, not sure it would help you much, but it's there for your reading as well.
