Two questions ... I am investigating my 454 block, as the heads are at the machine shop, confirming a few details from what the PO told me about the engine and the various stampings found on it.
It's indeed a '90 Mark IV block, casting 10069286, forged on Feb 20th, 1990 (B 20 0).
Its a 4-bolt 'short' deck. One marking on it has "K22 445 HI PERF PASS". I believe the K notes that it was forged in Canada, as ones that had "M" was forged in Mexico - but not 100% on that.
Question number 1 - I was told from the PO that the block was never torn into. However, I noticed 'numbered' stamps on each of the rod-caps, which I used in the past to keep what caps went to what rod during a rebuild. Would the factory could of done this too?
Question number 2 - The cam sprocket was really chewed up - and noticed this hard, honey colored coating on it, that was broken in several sections. Initially I thought that this may have been old oil, but it's really on there. Picture below. Thoughts to what this material is? Anyone seen this before?
The crank sprocket doesn't have any of this on it, and it's not chewed up either.
Thanks in advance,
