Thinking of trading one of my cars for this blazer. I dont know a lot about them, other than the fact that they are cool as hell, so I wanted to ask your opinions. Also was wondering if there are any common problems I need to look out for. Thanks for the help!

What is your intended purpose for the rig? Do you plan to use it as a trail only rig or street duty as well? The 73-75 blazers have rust issues with the rocker box area so look for that. The info says "it's a beater and not one to restore" which makes me think it either has a ton of rust or smashed body panels.

I plan on using it on the street some too. I have a daily driver, but its a little 2 door lincoln with a cobra motor and cant go playing in the desert with it. I would like to use it to take the kids camping and stuff like that and maybe a little off roading but nothing crazy.

There are some pics posted on the craigslist ad but I cant post links yet. I am waiting for the owner to send me some detailed pics too.

Is this what you are talking about?

For the price it doesn't seem like that bad of a deal considering what it has, assuming you don't mind rust if it has any. I mean, for me, the lift amount is a little much, dual shocks pretty much unnecessary, but these items can be changed to your tastes. But if the tires are in good shape at least it's a turnkey wheeler. :waytogo:

Yep thats the one. Not sure if it has any rust but its not gonna be a show vehicle for sure. I'm not sure if its a full convertable or not, I cant tell from the pics, but I would rather have just the back half removeable.

This will be my first 4x4 so I'm not up to par on all the lingo for aftermarket parts, but a buddy I work with is a big jeep guy and said the stuff added to it already is pretty good.

Jeep guys are impressed with Dana 44's. Us fullsize guys know they don't tend to live long with 39.5's under a K5. lincoln locked is fine for trail only, but you'll quickly learn to hate it on the street...plus it chews up the rear tires fast. It's not bad though...

That one is a full convertable, which is much harder to find.

The dana 44 if open will probably live but with 39.5s it will break sometimes, if you expect that you will be better off. That is if its open and you leave it open if you lock the front expect it to break

It actually doesn't look bad as far as the body goes to me. I have a soft spot for the full verts. I say if it runs decent go for it. with the 4 speed and 205 it will definitelyn be dependable as far as trans and t-case go, that is probably the best out of the box trans/t case combo you could get

but still cheaper than another wife.

Other than the 44 front being a bit weak for those tires, that looks like a pretty good rig. Motor, t-case, and tranny are all great equipment. For what you want it for, it sounds like if you wanted to, you could sell those tires and maybe even the overdone lift and end up money ahead with a bit more managably-sized wheeler. The steering is probably stock since he didn't mention crossover, which may or may not suit your needs. GM trucks had a pretty poor system for off-road use, but you could change that to a crossover system pretty economically if you are comfortable doing work yourself. The welded rear shouldn't deter you much. It isn't that noticeable unless you're on really icy roads or small parking lots all the time. It's not a DD anyways, and it makes a world of difference on the trail. And if you absolutely hate it, 14 bolt carriers are a dime a dozen anyways.

If you go look at it, other than tranny shifting, engine running, etc...look for these things:

Frame damage at the steering box. Have someone turns the tires back and forth while you watch the frame from inside the engine compartment and under the truck, it will flex, but make sure there are no cracks. He may already have a brace on there, if he does, that's a good sign he was building that truck the smart way.

Rear passenger side shock mount cracking the frame. This was a crappy design. If it's cracked there, it's easy to fix with a welder.

Engine crossmember and motor mounts. The crossmembers here sucked and frequently are cracked near all the angle changes. I'd recommend replacing it with an aftermarket one even if the OEM one is OK, but this is a good indicator of the TLC the seller was putting into the truck. It's also an area that you might be able to use to talk him down on price if he's neglected it.

If the thing is in reasonable mechanical condition, you could probably damn-near part it out and make money, so I'd say it looks like a good deal. It looks like a good base for whatever you want for the price. It's a good leg-up on a full-blown 1-ton trail rig, and if you just want a camping rig on 35"s, you could sell off the stuff you don't need and put that money into maintenance and camping gear. I'd probably sell my truck for about that much, and it looks a whole lot worse than that one! :)

He's right. A 30+ year old truck is either going to be a $10,000+ collector's item, or a lot of work. But personally, I'd rather build up an old beater by hand than spend $30,000+ on a new Jeep that I don't want to scratch. My friend's refer to mine as "the hole in the ground to throw money in". But hey, I've got less than $3k into my rig, and I keep up just fine with friends that have brand new jeeps on 37s, beadlocks, air lockers, etc...And if I get tired, I can inflate my air mattress in the back and go to sleep :D

Well that deal fell through..... but I got another one! This sunday I pick up my 82 Jimmy. Dont think its lifted and it needs new tires and a heater core, but I am really excited. Its got a 350, auto trans, red and white paint, and its 4x4 works good. No rust.

I will probably have some questions but I promise I will search before I ask them so the search nazi's wont hound me.

Thanks for the help!
