I really want to turbo my truck and i dont know how i can do it with full length headers and still keep it practical. i thought about taking some stock manifolds and flipping them upside down and y piping them up above the motor. And since i have a body lift i have an ungodly amount of hood clearance.

i have a turbo off an early 90's f350, well actually the whole truck. so just about everything i need minus some custom bracketry.

Has anyone done a single turbo system on our trucks? Or any 350 for that matter? All i can seem to find is twin set ups

Yeah, you're looking at a lot of custom plumbing for the exhaust and intake. I trust you have a bender for large tubing? Look around for pictures of other turbo installs on trucks. How will you deliver the extra fuel? And you'll want to jet the secondaries richer.

Twin turbo on a V style motor is the way to go. I don't know a ton about these systems, but i do know the basics of turbo charging, and turbo plumbing...and its way easier with 2 turbos. A single turbo woudl require a lot more plumbing

You should buy the book Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. Long story short you will see he points out that a dual turbo should be used on 5.0 liter engines and larger. There are a number of hurdles you will have to overcome, but you won't be able to keep your non-turbo headers that's for sure.

If you are not using a fuel injected engine expect it to be a lot more difficult too. Fuel injection is the way to go with a turbo.

If you've got alot of hood clearance do it the easy way and get a 6-71 :D

As said single turbos are a bitch to plumb and blowing through a carb really isnt easy to tune. Have you looked at prochargers?

better learn all about BLOW THRU Carbs.

Id luv to do a turbo setup. My idea would be to find a 1980 Trans am with the 400cid Turbo'd motor. just drop that in. :D

this is what I did when I was in High School

pegged the boost guage at 20 PSI daily, and one fast SOB

I have an edelbrock 750 and 850 carb laying around. Im sure that would suffice. And a fuel pump deliver mass amounts of fuel.

And modifying a carb to be blow through isnt all that complicated.

Not trying to be a smart azz or anything but youve got ALOT of research ahead of you.

One of my dream cars to own/build is a 1955 Porsche 550 spyder aka James Dean car. But I want to have modern suspesion and brakes and turbo'd 200hp porsche motor built.

Ive also thought about doing a turbo to my Blazer as well. ive done some research but the wealth of info out there can be mind boggling. Getting the fuel setup seems to be the big issue.

how the hell does that setup work?
Draws the air and fuel through carb and then compresses if, the main part that makes of work is the carb base adaptor. It allows a/f to enter the intAke at low speed and once boost hits it all goes throw turbo.

The drivers exhaust manifold is plumed into the back of the pass manifold so all 8 are used.

So you need a super special intake or something?

If you want to turbo something you could also go with the 5.3 from the newer chevys. 600 horse on stock internals with a t70 turbo.

We actually have a 5.3 laying around... how convenient.
I was already thinking about swapping it in for some mpg's. not sure how much of a pain in the ass making a harness would be. we have the computer at least
