questions concerning a lift

So I m by all definitions a newb when it comes to 4wd. I just bought an 83 suburban, shortly there after I bought everything for a six inch lift, six inch siperlift front springs rear shackle flip and diy 5 inch shackles. It already had a 2 inch lift installed, 2 inch front springs in the front and 2 inch add a leafs in the rear. I also just bought a set of 3/4 ton axles 10 bolt front and a 14bff with 4.10 gears. I am concerned about drive shaft length I got the rear drive shaft the donor truck was a reg cab long bed. I was told the drive shaft should be slightly longer to compensate but I havent measured. So what I really need to know is what will need to be done with the lift to accomplish the lift? Any help or input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Not really sure what you mean by the question you are asking. Can you better explain what your plans are and then we can fill in the blanks for you...
 
Do I need to lengthen my stock rear drive shaft or will the truck rear work? and what do I need to do with the front? or do I just leave them alone?
 
^^ X2 you wont know how long to make them until you have the axles and the springs under it. Also, you mention having "everything for a 6 inch lift" does that include the nessessary steering corrections as well as the extended brake lines?

Yes I have a raised steering arm and as far as the brake lines go I am the shop foreman of an automotive shop and one of my techs is an ASE certified brake and front end tech and I am a welder so we have the brake lines handled. :D

Are you implying that you are going to weld longer brake lines on?

Just kidding, I would just pony up the $$ for some nice extended ones. There are some threads on here that have part numbers of some stock lines from other applications that will work with your lift

Nothing is ever "bolt on and go" with a 6" lift. Lets just start with that.

Good call on upgrading to 8 lug axles.

You have the brake lines handled? I hope you're not "handling" it by just making some hard line extensions to mount the hose end lower. Once the lift is in the suspension now has more travel to it than in its stock configuration. The stock hoses may be ripped out of the hard lines or caliper if that suspension gets flexed out. Brake hoses don't make good limiting straps.

I agree on what was said about the drive shafts. You won't know what you need till it's all together.

Other than that it sounds like you have plenty of mechanical experience to handle the work.
 
Well I finally got it lifted and with the the 14bff and conversion U joint the rear drive shaft is actually slid into the transfer case about 1/8 of an inch further than it was in stock configuration I am going to rebuild the front driveshaft for good measure. As far as the brake lines are concerned I did extend the hard lines by 8 inches. I had to cut the crap out of the front fenders and I think I will need more. I will find out saturday on my first wheelin trip.
 
Like has been said watch the brake lines close, I have seen them pull the hard line hard enough to kink it. But that depends on alot of things, brand new springs probably won't flex enough to hurt it but just keep an eye on it
 
New brake lines are on order just wanted to get it up and running for the weekend butt will keep a close eye on them and I am going to put some limiting chains on it tonight
