Looked a t a 99 gmc suburban today 454 auto 2500 series. It has leather ,130k,barn doors,i guess all power options and a sunroof. What should i look for I know nothing about these trucks other than front end issues. The only thing I noticed was the headliner was all fubared as if the sunroof was leaking or left open. thanks Scott

First and foremost, they never came with factory sunroofs. Some dealers did some installs, but the quality of most was marginal at best.

Other than the front end issues, its a solid truck. Depending on use and care, the trans may come due for a rebuild soon, and that will run you about $2500. BUT, its a 4l80e, which is a killer trans.

Good luck!

I had a '99 2500 454 till about 175000 miles. Biggest problem I had was the brakes something was screwy with the electronic controlled proportioning valve I believe. We would go thru front pads about every 10,000 miles and the rear shoes I believe I only ever replaced twice. Mine was 4.10 geared and pretty much got 10 MPG no matter what you did. Had problems with the AC around 150K ended up putting close to $2000 into it to get it fixed. Replaced intake manifold gaskets around 50K . Hydroboost went bad around 125K. I remember some POS pot metal piece breaking in the door once or twice. Went thru water pumps about every 50k miles last one was while I was on Vacation in the outer banks. End of the sway bar weld rusted out and broke around 125k got a HD one from summit. Damn near impossible to change the distributor cap. Mine used about a qt of oil every oil change. Thats about all I can remember, it was a good truck the brakes and finally the AC bull **** were what pushed me over the edge with it otherwise I would still have it. Just replaced it yesterday with a '90 I find these trucks much easier and cheaper to work on. I even bought a '79 f350 HP Dana 60 to do a SAS on the '99 but never got there. Good Luck.

All GM vehicles around then had Intake Manifold gacket issues from GM DeathCool anti freeze.

Yeah, that's what they say and came out with a new one. But people who got rid of DeathCool (Dexcool) early on never had issues, or clogged cooling systems, or heater cores... and after new gaskets there's always Green Anti Freeze...
