Edge of insanity
Hey guys have a few quick questions. I am checking out an 86 civvy 1 ton srw 4x4 truck. It has 454/465/205, and is a stake bed truck(not sure if its a factory package or "aftermarket"). What are the odds of the tcase being a 32 spline transfer case? also what kind of gearing did these usually get, I figure 4.10 is the most likely ratio. Also what are these specific types of trucks goin for so I can judge the price a little.

The truck is a little rusty since its been all along the gulf coast, would need some maintenance to get driveable like fluids, tires, hoses, battery, but other than that, isnt in too bad a shape. Any information or opinions would be great, as usual, you guys rock!

every 1 ton i bought for parts had the 4.10 and the gov lock for the axles.

100%, **if original** it will have a round pattern 32 spline 205 with the long style input.

I'd say the odds are in favor of abig84 being right about the 4.10's. As for the Gov Bomb it's hit or miss, my 91 USAF crew cab had an open diff. Look at the rear cover and see if there are remnants of a (approx) 2"x4" black sticker, this indicates a Gov Bomb.

offtopic, but uao85, you go to A&M?

I did when I was a dual engineering major, but now I commute to Sam Houston working on a BS in Biology with prep for physical therapy school. What year are you?

Oh I also found out they have a cucv m1008 as well for sale...hmmm interesting. If only I had a long gooseneck trailer...maybe I can barter parts for a friend to pick them up:thinking:

It will have the 32 splines.

If it has high miles, it will likely have 3.73 gears.
Low miles will see 4.56 gears.
Average will have 4.10 gears.

Mileage has a lot to do with fuel economy and gas prices. The 3.73 gears allow the truck to be driven further and at higher speeds.

Check the RPO sticker in the glove box for the necessary info you need.

my 11/86 k30 had d60f w/7/84 model 3.73...is that odd 2 yrs on a shelf? open diff

edit: oh and a 465 w/32output spline & female t/c input also...stock,iirc

awesome, thanks for all the info guys. Yeah the only problem, I cant really check it out since its 4 hours away, but I did get the vin to look it up, just couldnt find any info on gearing or other year specific things like tranny/tcase spline input/output.

if its a stock 1 ton w 465/205, the 205 supossed to be female no coupler sleeve needed ...the tranny output slips into t/c input from what i've read

cool cool, so what do you guys think a good realistic price would be for either truck??? 1 civvy 1 ton 4x4, and 1 85 m1008 cucv 1 ton 4x4?? I kinda have a range in mind, but I also like to wheel and deal and haggle a little bit so let me know what you all would consider fair and a good deal etc.

cool, yeah I am class of 08, but yeah, pb gonna be fall 09 hopefully.

I am brainstorming about the trucks now while I do calc hw...thinking of a way to get them back to CSB from corpus. They will most likely get parted out if I do pick them up, just need some original oem trim pieces, some a/c equipment, and maybe a drivetrain part or two for my m1008. You can never have too many spare 60s laying around, lol...jk. I am also thinking of making a lwb trailer out of one of them to match my cucv.

OK I have to stop and get back to cal HW, I hate A.D.D., just when Im working at a good pace on school stuff....I just space out thinking about some crazy shiat. All for now.

hmmmm one ton trucks in/near bcs that might be parted out...keep me in mind... I might be interested in some stuff if you part them out after you get what you need
