In the middle of putting discs on my 14bff. Took spindle nut, washer, spider thing, and whatever else was in there off. The spider things are totaled.

Should I just buy new retainers or everything? It all came apart smoothly, I've never replace any of this hardware before but I just read this stuff is "one time use only, replace if removed".

Looking to place an order. Thanks for any input.

I just did this, I grabbed a spare one from my stash...but id go down to O'Reallys, bring in the spider thing, and tell them you want another one for a 79 k20/k30 truck...The washer, other inner spindle nut, and outer spindle nut you can reuse.

If you have a D60 front axle just get the whole set for the D60 front and then you only need one socket for both ends.

I might just do that. My D60 has a 4 prong and the 14b has a 6 prong. Already ended up buying both sockets, but it sure would be nice to only need one for a trail toolbox.

DONE

Orielly wanted crazy money for a set. Bought everything through Rockauto. Grabbed two sets of D60 stuff and D60 spindle/axle seals. Bout $85 :)

Got another question about re-assembly. I know the bearings are splash lubed, but what about initial? Should I through some wheel bearing grease on them for the install and initial driving?

Thoroughly coat them with gear lube, dipping them is the best way. Fill the well between the inner and outer bearings with gear lube. An old dish detergent bottle works good for that.
