Is the choke light the one with a brown and white wire going to it:thinking: or does it run off of the printed circuit,:ears: putting my dash back together and thats the only one I can't remember:doah:

oh yeah what about the 4 wheel drive light, I never knew I had one or was supposed to have one till now, does that run off the printed circuit

The choke ( and I think ESC too ) runs to the oil pressure switch above the oil filter on the drivers side of the block .

Can't answer definitively for you, the 4wd light changed at least once in the production run, early has a completely seperate harness that has the bulb connected directly to it, later integrates into the PCB. I suspect the change was for '81, but can't be certain. I got the seperate harness from a 1980 truck, and my 1991 R/V cluster has the 4wd light integral with the PCB. My strong suspicion is that all 1981-1991 have it arranged like that.

As to the choke light, it should be a part of the PCB, my pre-'90 PCB was setup like that. What's on the end of the brown/white wire? Is it a bulb socket?

oh yeah also, should the choke light come on when ignition on/engine off or when does it come on I can't remember when it should come on

I believe it should be on key on/engine off. I know they run into the pressure switch as previously mentioned. No oil pressure the light should be on AFAIK.

Short of a diesel wiring harness, I can't think of anything on a truck your vintage that should have a seperate bulb/harness.

It is entirely possible the 4wd light stayed seperate longer than I think it did, but that would be the only thing I can think of that used a seperate light.

yeah thats what I thought, its on now, the contact on the bulb was just off a little and I just moved it back and now its working as advertised, thanks for the help

Still don't know about the 4 wheel drive light though, but it never worked before so I guess I won't miss it, I just put that bulb in w/ the brown/white wire where it should light up and that bulb is good for sure but doesn't light up when I put the T-case into 4 wheel so I don't know

would it possibly have to do w/ the connector on the top of the T-case, because that one kinda full of gunk and may not be getting good contact if any

Hey mudbogger did you ever figure out what that white/brown wire went too? Putting my dash back together as we speak and can't go on till i figure what up with that bulb. weird thing is all spots for bulbs have a spot to run off back of circuit, so there's no open spot where it should go. And its ground think its hooked up to ESC crap but stumpped.
