I was checking my trans fluid today, and noticed a sound under the hood that sounded a lot like a vacuum leak, but different. So I looked at the fuel injectors, and one of them was spraying a lot. The other was spraying almost nothing at all.

So what's normal?

Normal operation= smooth even spray, no "thready" drips . both should mist evenly. Resistance tests does not always confirm a good injector, but may be an indicator, (should be more than 1.2ohms). You should make sure the computer is attempting to "fire" that injector. If it is check the injector resistance, if it seems ok check the wiring circuit from the ECM to the injectors. If the circuit is ok you have 2 possibilities . swap the injectors and see if the operation is still the same, if it is you probably have a bad ecm on our hands. if the swapped injector works and the other does not , bad injector.

How do I go about making sure the computer is trying to fire that injector? I don't have any sort of ECM interface- no fault reader, no WinADL.

Noid Light is the best method for accuracy . fairly cheap as well. Or if near an autozone or a parts store that rents tools would likely rent one. There are other methods too lengthy to go into but if you have a chilton or haynes manual, they'd explain better than me. i tried to post a diagnostic flow chart from somedata, but it wont let me cut and paste from them

Can't you just swap the two injectors?

Blue:yeah. but in the case that it doesn't change anything the rest of the info is there to ease the troubleshooting that would follow. And hooking up a noid light to confirm what the ecm wants it to do is faster than the swap. That is if you have one or access to one Bigred:what part of cali you from? I didnt see mention of any drivablility issues. It doesn't runs like crap ?

I'm in Lompoc. Not native- military transplant. On startup, the idle fluctuates a bit, but once it warms up, it runs fine. Don't really have any issues with how it drives, but one injector spraying a bunch and the other not spraying much at all just didn't seem right.
