I'm trying to decied if its worth it to swap my carb or just keep mine and get some help to get it dialed in. I've tried to set the floats myself and I can't seem to drop the float on the main. might be something stuck because it dropped before and the rear drops but not the front now. In any case, it still needs adjustment past that. The whole thing needs a tune up really but my delema at the moment is should I keep my QFT or swap to a Holley. The old school mechanic in my area says to swap to Holley which i'm leaning towards. Would you

Details -

- Holley 750 Double Pumper
- Electric Choke
- Mechanical secondaries
- (mechanic says vacuum wont work well and should go mechical due to cam it has)

QFT Option Street option -

- QFT 750 Double Pumper

the holley seems pretty pricey but I want to get something thats reliable but still give me the flow the engine wants.

I would never run a Holley or a Holley Copy on a off-road rig ever again.

Go fuel Injection, or if you go carbed get a good Q-jet from Jet performance or Sean Murphy Induction

Thanks for the feedback, haven't really considered the Holly Sniper due to my assumption it was way out of price range. Its obviously a lot more than a carb replacement but if it can be installed and dialed in without having to take it to an old school carb pro the price could balance out? Beags86, are you running the holy sniper? Did some quick search on it and it looks somewhat straightforward to install and seems to dial itself in? I'm honestly tired of the one thats on there running like sh*t so definitely considering this lol!

how does the Holy EFI compare to some of the others like FiTech or whatever else is out there?

Lots of guys here are running a fitech, or sniper or a fast efi.
Personally I have a fast EFI, but I can't tell you that much about it as my truck doesn't run.
Damn, I need to work on that.
Basically carbs are controlled fuel leaks and oems haven't been using carbs for 30 years.
Think about it.
The sniper is a great system, I wish that it was out when I bought my fast efi. I probably would have bought it instead. Personally I think it Holley is the leader in the aftermarket EFI game. When I finish my 2wd I will be using a Holley mutiport EFI setup.

I would just look around at the build threads to see who has what and what they say about it. Honestly you can't really go wrong with anyone of the them. And it won't cost you much more then a new carb and you will be way way happier with it.

You only will have to mod your fuel system some and you won't need to take to any shop for any tuning. It's a self tune system and other then the fuel system it's a bolt on.

Most guys buy a new EFI fuel tank and pickup for an 87- and up truck.
( That's what I did)
Then it's just a basic swap for the in tank fuel pump.
So with basic hand tools and a weekend your up and running.

i run fitech and will never buy a carb again. follow instructions and you will be fine, if your not running boost dont go msd rout, more chance for problems.

awesome advice, will be researching this a lot more for sure!

I believe it will work with my MSD and Accel distributor and help dial in the timing too possibly? I'll do some more research from the other threads on this but that sounds really like this could be a good option for my build.

Interesting Kain, i've already got a 6AL box with Accel HEI dist (6AL not hooked up at moment) but I watched a video earlier and it said MSD box fine with it.

I had msd d6al and rpm noise sucks
Ten thousand things can cause it from plugs, wires ,cap, rotor, the button on the bottom of the coil, the coil itself the list goes on and on, after spending 400 bucks replacing all that stuff and being stranded 18 times I pulled msd and never had a problem. And have spare wires, plugs, cap, rotor ,and ignition module ect...

Don't get me wrong there are a lot of guys running msd without issues but the hei distributor works just fine for my application. And still will never buy carbs again

@beags86 i'm really not sure, the motor was built from a couple owners before but has low miles still prob 15k. The idle has been raised and it doesn't lope near as much as it did then but is still pretty nasty sounding. I did read some of the folks that installed EFI were a bit disappointed with the sound after. Think they just have some adjustments off or is that a likelhood when converting to EFI?

I wasn't asked about cam specs because of the sound, I was going to warn you that some EFI says that you can't use a cam with a lsa of 110 degrees or less. Although the internet says some guys are using a EFI kit with 108-107 lsa.
I personally built my engine with the intention of efi, so my cam lsa is 110.
Not saying it won't work, just a warning.

As far as sound: your truck sounds damn mean, but I would give up any sound over performance.
And my personal experience is the EFI does keep it some lope sound down, although it's still there. And I think it also makes the exhaust sound louder.
Either way it will sound like you have something mean in there.

@beags86 @Kain thanks for input. 1000% agree that performance out weighs flash, bling, etc. I just want it to work above all other things. i'll try to find out what cam is in the truck. will be doing some more comparisons on the different EFI options. i saw in one of the videos where the tank was needed to be dropped, drained, and tapped into with a return high pressure line? thats defiantly not ideal. I just installed the tank a month ago and don't want to take it off again lol. FiTech had some kind of pressure module that acted as a buffer between and allowed a return to run through the regular sending unit I believe. Is something similar available with the Holly system?

yeah I am supposed to go L18 8.1L and did that. I put an 87 saddle tank in drivers side, 87 float/solenoid and have it all working - added a regulator as I'm running carb...

this guy keeps taking forever to get me a price on shipping for the motor... I'm dying here.. $1800 sitting here to spend and ive thought of going holley sniper... I should consider tellin the dude for get the 8.1L and ill just efi my 1991 sbc
1991 caprice police roller 350 ( L05 block )
96 Tahoe vortec heads
weiand power plus+ dual plane vortec intake
full tube headers
comp cams xtreme 4x4 cam .458" lift (smallest as I didn't want to do head work)
msd-6AL
msd dizzy
msd wires

you can use the filler neck return and tap into it for return line. You can get a marroso return that uses the filler neck hose(the rubber part) just think a brass tee works and is cheaper. also i dislike drilling gas tanks. dont know about sniper maybee someone else that has em can give info on that. I do know that they have the same issues as fitech from some of the guys on a forum that have both so it isnt just fitech that can have efi noise. I have learned that much but also for the hundreds of bad stories you hear there are ten thousand that dont have issue.

8.1 or a 350, us this really a question?

I would find another 8.1 if that's the case.
No reason to wait for them to find shipping, that's a couple hour process at best.
