I just picked up a set of H2 wheels and tires for my 90 Suburban and am curious about using a set of GMC center caps with those wheels. I've seen some threads that mentioned trimming some off of the back of the cap so they sit closer to the wheel. I've also seen where some have mentioned using externally threaded lug nuts to attach the cap. Forgive me for my ignorance, but this is my first experience with these caps on any kind of vehicle, so I am unfamiliar with exactly how they attach. Does the center cap have actual nuts that thread onto the externally threaded lug nuts that hold the wheel itself on? If anyone can enlighten me as to what caps (from what years) and what nuts I need to be looking for, I would very much appreciate it!!

Sorry, just signed up on here so I can't post links to the nuts or caps I am looking at yet.

Many thanks in advance!!

Yeah that is how they are held on , but the wheel nuts are metric so you would need to change the studs on your axles to be able to use them.

Any cap off a newer 2500 Gm/ chev with the pyo wheels should work 1999 and up. ( pyo is the factory code for the aluminum wheels on a 2500)

I think you just need to cut the pins off the back side of the cap to make them fit H2`S.

Hope that helps.

You don't need to change studs. Do a search on ebay for "dual thread" and you will find proper lug nuts for the truck that have the external threads for the caps. I bought a set of 32. My axles had 9/16" studs, yours should be the same.

When it comes to the center caps, you need to find them from the alloy wheels (as previously mentioned). You will not need to modify them.

If you get the wrong ones from steel wheels you will need to do some cutting (ask me how I know).

In short, the steel wheel caps "flare out" at the base near the lug caps, becoming wider than the lug cap holes. If that makes sense. The alloy caps are "indented" in between the lug cap holes.

I'll try to find a thread with some good pics of the 2 different caps....

I still can't post a link, but if you go to EZaccesory.com and look at part #98-0009, is that the right nut? I might just go with the H2 caps and call it a day, still undecided.

Ah yes, thanks for the link! Seeing a picture of the proper caps helps a lot. I was typing my last reply when the two before me came in.

Yup, that's them.

Click the link in my sig for some pics, I did exactly what you're doing. Except I bought the wrong caps.

Thanks Brian, I appreciate the help! And speaking of signature, at what point do I get to add one? Makes it a lot easier to list your trucks there than to have to describe it every time you post a question. Just curious.

With a $25 paid membership. Well worth it for the amount of knowledge and experience on this site. Plus you get access to even more info and pics on this site. If you own one of these old trucks, that $25 is money well spent for the info here.

Perfect example, you asked that question about the wheels, you got the answer you needed without any BS.

Sounds like a deal to me. I have been on plenty of forums that I ended up hating because of all the BS (yaaaarrr), but also regularly use several others (binderplanet, IFSJA, elcaminocentral) that are chock full of great info and great people.

I bought a set of 4 of the "correct" center caps off ebay, I'm only using the two on the rear since I don't want to hack up the other pair for the front, so if interested I'll sell you the other two for half of what I have into the set of 4.

These are the chrome proper ones for the H2 rims.

If you don't mind, shoot me a PM or email with a couple pics of them and what you might want for them shipped to 76801. Thanks for the heads up and for the offer!

Also, can you post up a pic of the caps installed on the wheel? Perhaps something fairly close up that still shows the whole cap so I can see exactly how it looks? Many thanks!!

Bought them for $75 shipped to my door, so I'd want half that to ship you a pair plus the paypal fees(which are going up and up)

not sure if that link will work or not but that's the pair I bought. Can't get any pics tonight since it's dark out but maybe this weekend.

Thanks but I'll probably have to pass and just wait to find a set of four locally or at the yard. Looking forward to seeing them installed though, I bet they look great!
