My Harmonic balancer flew off the JIMMY today!

So I went to the parts store & got a new one.

The one I took off is OD 6.00"

The replacement one is OD 6.75".

It can bolt on & work.

The question is...

Will the timing mark be correct?

MY DD is in the shop so I'm driving the rig to work. I have to fix it tonight so I can drive it to work tomorrow.

I'll rant & rage about it later. Right now I need to fix it.

Well, that is a good question. The location of the timing mark is not really related to the diameter of the balancer. As long as its in the same place in relation to the key on the crankshaft, then the TDC mark will be the same.

Sounds like you got one for another engine, or some kind of aftermarket, but I would suspect that they are the same.
Is there enough left of your old one that you can compare the location of the mark to the location of the keyway between the two?

Yes

With the key at 12:00

the one I took off is OD 6.00 and the mark is at 12:00

The replacement is OD 6.75 and the mark is at 11:50

I have to force myself to slow down, I'm rushing.

OK, I got it back together.

The timing mark did not move.

Thanks Fordum :waytogo:

Wait a minute...

I'm back. The harmonic balance DID NOT read the same timing mark.
I was trying to tune the engine and could not get it timed right.

I found the one that matched the original that I took off. I checked timing, swapped them out & checked again. The timing mark was off.

Nevertheless I'm all fixed up and not having issues anymore.

I didn't want to leave incorrect information on the interweb.
