I'm needing a new steering column for my 88 K5. I know I can get clear up to 1991, but what is the first year I can get cause of the wiper/cruise on the blinker switch.

I had my parts store look up the switch and the first year showing for a combo switch is 1984 but there are 8 different switches between 1984-1990 and if you break it down between tilt and non tilt then there are 4 different ones for each application and that breaks down between pulse or no pulse wipers.

what is pulse wipers, is that intermittent wipers? Mines an 88 with intermittent wipers

i would assume that by pulse..it would mean same thing

4x4high- you seem to be of good info from what i read and even check with parts store for info.
i have a steering column ?....the long flat plug that plugs the column to the harness, was it a standardized gm plug? meaning all gm columns connect via same plug and conductor just added or omitted due to options, but main 12v supply, starter solidnoi out, and other stand have to have conections always in same spot?
i have a 79 or 80 cadillac steering column that has tilt telescope and it has the cruise and stuff on turn signal, how hard to put in a 80 k5, maybe just a newstyle cab wiring harness from (like you noted) an 84-85 up that had these type controls?
or will i have to get out the manuals and 1 for the caddy and match and splice, i guess i could move them around within the plug if gm columns weren't the same at the plug...any1 done this swap?

Same plug yes, but the spot where said wire(power, grd, etc)move around within the plug

You have to take the ignition plug into account too....
