I was planning on installing my Spartan Locker tomorrow, but realized I don't have a diff cover gasket.

Honestly, I don't even know if it has one, do they use sealant?

Should I pick up a gasket, sealant, or just be really careful putting it back together and pray? lol.

good old rtv be fine .

clean good / rinse with brake cleaner / dry - dry - dry / rtv it and don't need a ton as it can buldge up inside or bolt holes / bolt her on .

and if you want good permatex rightstuff is about the best off the shelf .

3-4 qrt new gear oil best option also .

don't be surprised if on a front you need to undo 1 side and slide the axle out 1/4-1/2 inch to install. a buddys truck we did one on dana 60 we had to . no amount of prybar action on the shaft got the room we needed.

Thanks! No, just the rear. Shouldn't be too painful. I have read some nightmares about getting the cross pin bolt out, and even the cross pin, I'm hoping it all goes smoothly.

I couldnt get the roll pin out. I have to take the whole carrier out now. I use permatex stuff. Its labeled as gasket sealer in a grren and gray tube. Ive literally wiped a surface with a dirty rag and it sealed haha.

Yikes, what do you think the problem is? I have heard of them breaking off and leaving a chunk in the cross pin.

I think mine was just frozen in there from being 30 some odd years old. There directional too. I believe that the pin is designed to come out towards the driver side. I didn't realize that and found some bad info saying otherwise so that didn't help my situation.

Make sure you get a roll pin punch. The roll pins can collapse or mushroom if driven the wrong way.

Hopefully you don't have the same problems I did.

Sorry, I'm getting confused now. What roll pins? There is a bolt through the cross pin, pull the cross pin out, pull the c-clips out, slide the axles and pull out the spider gears, right?

This is just a 10 bolt rear, maybe you are talking about a 14 bolt?

The cough syrup is getting to me. I have no clue why I assumed it was a dana 60. Carry on lol.

I should have put all the info in my first post. It's going to be awhile before I commit to going 8 lug, in the meantime there has been a couple times I wished I had a locker, so this is a cheap way to go for now.

There great lockers! They put up with a lot of torment.

I had this happen to me when salvaging axles from a 12 bolt . The bolt just snapped right in half, hardly even put any pressure on it.
