hey guys, i am debating a purchase on a NV4500 to put in the truck at some point. The price on the unit in question is unquestionably fair.... if anything its unfair to the seller, but the problem is its a 2wd unit. It is however a low mileage unit, and was in good operating condition when removed, and the only thing wrong with it is a small peice of a bolt hole broke off the bellhousing if memory serves. Its the late model unit, with the 5.xx first gear, and not the early unit with the 6.xx first gear.

question is. with all things factored in, the cost of the parts and transmission and transit fee's to go pick it up. im looking at around $800 for it.

am i stupid for even waiting on this, or should i wait it out and find a 4wd model for the same or less? all the reman ones ive seen on ebay and such are like $1200 bucks or more.

just want some feedback before i commit to buy the thing.

Oh and the kicker is that its one of the bretherin here on the forum selling it, so that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling too. :D

in my humble opinion, 800 is a pretty average rate for said 2wd trans. 4x4's are the ultra valuable ones.

you could pick up a divorced dodge np205 for 200, and have yourself a nice setup. does it come with the hydro clutch setup?

naw, just the tranny, but its the chevy bolt pattern, which is kinda required for the 6.2. Im not doing the swap right now, but like to assemble my parts ahead of time. Ill score the rest of the parts i need later.

oh and the tranny itself isnt $800, its $400, but with the parts to convert it to 4wd it comes out to around $800 total, for a 4wd chevy bolt pattern transmission.

so if $800 is a good price for a 2wd, seems like a no brainer to me.

like stink on... well ya :D. I want to drop a nv4500 behind my 6.2 but man they are expensive. Then all the crap to make it work, gonna take some saving

although, from my understanding the swap is pretty strait forward as far as mods to these trucks go.

NV4500/NP208 - is apparently very close to, if not the same length as the TH400/NP208 setup, so i should be able to use mysame driveshafts.

need to modify the holes in the floor for the shifters, and ill have to relocate my sub-box because its between the front seats.

install a clutch pedal setup (id really rather not make my own), install a manual master cylinder.

many suggest an adjustable proportioning valve,

and for me.... id need to sort out some sort of parking brake. im most likely going TC parking brake mounted to the driveshaft. unless i can somehow fit modern DIH disk brakes on my D70HD.

when i get home i gotta do a forum search on this, i know rusty did a thread on this somewhere.
