If I have a part time in my new-to-me 203, with teh front end unlocked or front drive shaft removed, I should be able to drive with it in any position except of course neutral correct? And how in the heck can you get these to shift easier? Thanks guys!

That is correct. Without the part time kit you would have to have the t-case in either of the loc positions.

ord makes a twin stick kit, or you can make one yourself here , I just took mine and cleaned it out really good and it works pretty well.

twin stick sounds good, Im not one to shy away from fab work, but that ORD looks sweet. On a side note, how rebuildable are the cardan joints on a front driveshaft? Mine is toasted.

depending on how bad the joint is it might be better to replace it, if the centering ball is gone i would just post up in the wanted section for a new shaft

just remember you will need to get locking hubs if you put a part time kit in the 203

That's not true, you can run the full time hubs that are in there.

The front end will wear a little faster (it will wear as fast as the rear, both should last a long time) but you won't have to buy or break lockouts.

Whats the point of having a part time kit if the front axle shafts are still spinning, that is the whole point of the part time kit to prevent the axles and drive shaft from spinning

It still decreases wear in the front (both on tires and the front end parts).

Your mileage will still also improve because your not losing another 9-10% efficiency by driving through the front axle.

But sure, using drive flanges (full time hubs) still negates some of the point of running a part time kit.
