A close friend of mine has a 2004 GMC SIEERA 1500, 4X4 and asked me about certain suspension product to chose from. Honestly, I told him that I have no clue :dunno: ....... but I promised him to consult the experts of one of the best sites to me (of course I meant this Site, and the experts up here).

He intends to give his truck a little lift and opted for 2". He found the following:

- 2" Lift Kit, and
- 2" Leveling Kit.

Which one works better and how each differs from the other in terms of off-raod performance, reliability, integrity etc. I seek your "bottom-line recommendation".

Your advice will be of help and value.....Thanks!

The simple answer is the levelling kit basically just brings the front up and leaves the rear alone...making the truck level front and rear. The lift kit will bring front and rear up 2", not changing the stance of the truck at all.

What's more important is the "how" of the different options. I'm no IFS lift expert, but I know of three ways to accomplish ~2" of lift. First is crank up the torsion bars (not so good), second is new offset torsion bar keys, and third is the whole drop bracket system to remount the entire IFS stuff lower. I'd guess for a modest 2" lift up front the offset keys are most likely and would be the best way to do it.

Rear would likely be 2" blocks if he chooses the lift kit over the levelling kit.

If he generally always has something in the bed of the truck the lift kit would be better for him. If he almost always runs around empty the levelling kit would be better.

Not sure how much that helps, I don't know which brands are considered best for IFS stuff.

Pretty much what was said, a leveling kit will make the truck level a 2" lift kit usually has 2" of lift in the front ( same as the leveling kit) and then a 1" block or add a leaf in the back.

Which exact kits is he looking at

Guys, you've been adequately helpful. It's great to note your advices and I already passed the same to my Friend. He echoed the same words to you.

As advised, he does not carry much in the Truck's bed and he will proceed with the 'Levelling Kit" for the front, then pack each corner with KING Shocks (OEM Performance); assisted with Air-Pumps in the front. Once done, I think he is set to go.

Well, with kings on every corner best to have an IFS that will function to let the kings shine.

Factory ball joints won't hold up, heck they barely hold up in stock form.

Look at camburg or BMS suspension systems

Rogered that and agree with the exchanged info so far.

I checked out the provided links and found that both "Camburg" and "BMS" are really competent and potential. I might go with any for upgrading my 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD. Then fit the KING's stuff.
