Read a few patterns before. Not sure if they were great, but they're still on the road and not howling.
This one just looks odd for some reason to me.

First pic is with a .060 shim at pinion. .007 backlash.
Second is with no shim, same backlash.
Third is the smears the pinion leaves on the ring after going through the compound.
Don't want to seal this up until I get a second or third opinion.
