How much PSI should my compression tester read on a rebuilt (under 100 miles) motor? Lets say returned to stock specs, nothing wild.

Also, on this same motor, what would be anyone's guess on the vacuum it should pull?

Lets just say I'm looking to buy something and the good ol' "fresh rebuild" story is used. :dunno: Not that it could have been a monkey putting it together.:doah:

vac at idle on average stocker is 17-19 @ 700-800rpm ( my good running tbi350 )

most will say plugs out / warm motor / throttle blades 100% open / cut off fuel supply / for a true test of compression .

comp I would guess 150 range for stock reman . and first roll over on check should be min 50% psi jump of max total after about 3 full rolls of the engine or this means weak sealing parts.

but more important whats the balance between all 8 cyl ? you don't want more than 10% max difference in each cyl to the rest .

and take a small flash light with you and look the motor over real good . look in the valve cover holes if there is no baffles inside and check the heads / springs area for sludge buildup and someone saying its reman but act just re gasketed .

last trust your gut feeling . . . and don't take anyones word unless you trust / know them good.

thanks a ton

but :( I passed on the '71 truck. Really really clean but had some things I thought should have been addressed before paint and interior. So the restoration was decent daily driver quality but not for the price. I'll keep looking.
