Driving the 89 Jimmy to the beach tomorrow, 200 miles. Bringing my buddy's 15ft aluminum Jon boat. Boat/trailer combo weighs probably at most 1000-1200 pounds. Would it be safe to tow this amount in OD? Half of the trip is 70mph zone on the interstate so I would like to be in OD if possible. My truck has the tow package and has an external trans cooler in front of the radiator. My trans has been great so far and I don't want to mess it up but really don't want to make the whole trip in 3rd going that fast. What do y'all think?

I have pulled by 3000 pound Bayliner in overdrive on level ground for miles at a time. I had 4.56 gears and 35s at the time. Have cooler. I have had no problems with trans, Can't say it is right.

Assuming you meant 3000 pounds... I have 3.42 gears and 32s.

Thanks for the replies guys. This is my first 700r4. I have towed several things with the truck so far including a 3000 pound 21ft boat and a blazer body, but always kept it in 3rd gear. Did tow my dirt bike in OD and it was fine. From what I gather light loads on flat road is fine, which is what I will primarily be seeing.

piece of cake
when you get to a hill just take it out of overdrive
i use to tow my 21' jet boat all over the place sometimes 300 miles + with 35" tires and stock gears
