Stupid NEWB question! :haha: So I'm doing an oil change and forgot to prime the oil filter. Right now, the level is slightly over full with 7 qts of oil. I tried cranking the engine over for 10 seconds to prime the oil filter to no avail. I want to check and make sure I'm not going to air-lock my oiling system by turning the engine on....

So, can I fire it up and let the engine run to purge the air, or do I need to pull the oil filter back off and prime it manually? :doah:

As long as you don't rev it up, I don't think you'll have a problem. There are plenty of vehicles that you cannot put oil in the oil filter after a change. Now, I don't know how big the filter on the 6.2L is, but I run the PH8A/FL1A/PL30001 large Ford oil filter on both my Jeeps. The filters mount horizontally and you cannot fill them before you put them on w/o soaking the start in oil. It only takes a few seconds to get oil pressure back. If you don't rev it up, the film of oil already in the bearings will hold it over till it's bled out.
