Will i need a new y pipe. I will likley need to replace mine and before i buy one im wondering if ill need a modified one. Not alot of people around here want to do alot of custom work, and i cant weld. That or they charge lots of money. So am i gonna need a custom y pipe or can i buy one that is modified already for a lift? If so where? I can grab a stock y-pipe, i think its walker for about 150. I need to replace it either way because the one i have was custom made and is crap. If i cant find a modded one? Can i take the stock one and rebend it for my needs or is that not a good idea? Thanks.

edit: whats the best brand for mufflers? lookin for a good glasspack and a few different companies make em.

The stock Y-pipe will not work once you lift it. The front driveshaft will hit the Y-pipe (at least it did with my blazer). Just have your local muffler shop make a new Y-pipe for you.

alright ill have to start lookin around i guess. the one shop i went to wanted 400 just to put a new stock ypipe in! haha eff that. i guess ill have to do alot of callin. how much should i expect to pay?

what are you looking for; loud, small size for clearance, tone? i've seen no measurable performance difference between one glasspack and another, but you get what you pay for as far as sound, IMO.

:haha:WTF are those guys smoking. are they the only shop in town or something? i got my entire cat-back system on my dd bent and welded up for less than that, and it's a whole lot more pipe, plus echo tips and a dynomax ultraflow muffler.

yeah dude seriously. Ill need to shop. As far as glass packs im just looking for something good sounding. Nice and raw and loud. Not like open headers or wake everyone up in the neihborhood loud but like wake my parents and sound like a beast loud. I like the sound of it because its a flowmaster 40 only more rawness to the rumble. I was thinking of going with cherrybomb but i really know little of mufflers, good brand?

I have the same problem here.. local shop quoted me $600 to do header back true duals, IF I provided the mufflers

cherry bombs sound more raucous than i'd want on mine, but it sounds like you'd be into it. the PO stuck a glasspack on mine, but i don't know the brand. it sounds a little mellower than some i've heard, but it may just be getting old and falling apart in there from age. i still don't think my neighbors like either one of my trucks, though. they echo through the neighborhood setting off car alarms when i pull in at 4am on the weekends. :D but nobody's whined to the homeowners' association yet, so it's fine.

Dynomax has a muffler called the "race bullet" that sounds really nice, IMO. doesn't get that raspy sound that some do.

okay one more thing. What kinda dimensions should i be looking for with the new custom y pipe? My current one curves around under the front driveshaft by an inch or 2. Is that like the stock one? How much more clearence am i gonna need with a 4 inch lift? Or should i have them tuck it under?

I've wandered the same. What if you routed the new Y-pipe over the top of the d-shaft?

My Y-pipe is custom and goes over the driveshaft and sits tight to the front of the tranny pan to keep it up out of the way. I can still get the tranny pan off though and i have a tranny temp guage and it doesn't affect my tranny temp by being that close.

thanks! thats perfect, i can use those to show them what i need done. thanks
edit: you got an 8 inch lift, the ypipe should still sit up there wth a 4 inch lift right?

i think you should be alright with your stock y-pipe with 4" lift. i know when i had 4" lift my stock one worked. when i went to 8" then it had to get modified. protechk5 had 6" lift on his k5 and used the stock ypipe as well. i guess it depends on what ur tranny/tcase combo is. mine is 700r4/208 and his was 700r4/241

I just put a 6 inch in my 89, and the y pipe just clears. i didn't flex the truck out yet. The y pipe over the driveshaft is the best way to go, I had the same setup on my previous truck.

Another thing I need to do soon . My exhaust was done when the truck was stock , and they tucked it up high for me . I have always rubbed on hard flexing up front . Wears a clean spot on my shaft .
