Were there two types of tailgate window cranks used?

Most of what I've torn into in the past are the 73-80 units with the manual cranks. I recently bought an 88 that's missing the crank unit but has speed nuts in the gate sheetmetal itself indicating that bolts under the spring clips that hold the handle were used where the retaining studs would be on the older units.

Is this OE or is this military engineering at it's finest?

ALL of the post 86 Blazers I've owned in the past were power and in all honesty if I run across that system in parts this one may be also before it's all said and done.

Thanks for any info you can provide,

Mike

cant say as ive got a mental picture of what you're describing, but try to run your post count up, and you should be able to post photographs. take a pic and post it, youll probably get better responces.

I prefer the manual tailgate window to the power. Then again, I prefer manual windows outright in old trucks.

To the best of my knowledge, however, all 73-91 Blazer tailgates are the same, save of course the difference between power and manual. (You mention military; this includes the M1009 CUCV tailgates which were the same as civvy Blazers.) I'm thinking yours is a previous owner "fix".

Dremu, that's what i'm thinking but it's been too long since I've been into one of these and as mentioned above this one's the newest I've owned with the manual rear window. The speed nuts have been there a LONG time, that's what threw me off.

This a former Air Force truck, I've known it for about the last 5 yrs when the previous owner bought it with 25 k miles on it. It's got 80 on it now with some typical rust issues, he put a price on it and I bought it cheap.

Mike

Thanks

You may think about becoming a paying member here. From your intro it sounds like you can provide just as much good info here as you could also learn.

This is an article I started and others have contributed and may contain pics of what you are looking for as well as an exploded view from old GM parts catalogs. But, you will need to be a member to see the pics.

I was swapping my power tailgate window stuff out for manual stuff so I took some pics as I disassembled because power gate window questions pop up a lot around here. I haven't started to put the manual stuff in yet as the top has been off all summer and I have not needed a rear window so there are not any good pics of the manual handle and such.....yet. I do remember that the manual handle bolted into the gate with real nuts and not speed nuts.

And, welcome to CK5!
