So i have seen the thread and "how to" on the quick release door hinges and was wondering if anyone had tried this for the tailgate?

Oops guess I should have stated for a blazer

Ok Great maybe you can point me to what year and make trucks came with the roll up windows?

basically there isn't any current solution for the blazer tailgate

The quickest quick release mod I can think of off the top of my head....

Manual roll up gate (no wires)
No assist springs
Custom fab'ed hinges with roll pins for removal
Two piece cables with clips in the center, to unclip and remove tailgate while leaving other half attached to truck.

Unless you come up with something, my solution ^^^ is the only solution that involves the Blazer gate right now. :D Otherwise, it's the truck gate.

Yes i have come up with another idea that was the question! Will it work? Has anyone tried this? Is there some obvious reason not to or that no one has tried that i am not seeing?

Just too be more clear the idea is to remove the hinge pins and replace them with the universal ones with cotter pins just like for the quick release door thread in the articular section.

here is the link: http://coloradok5.com/doorhingepins.shtml

ON mine im pretty sure:

wires have a disconnect or can be made to disconnect
Helper spring are not really and issue they can come off with the door really easy
Cables can just be unbolted at one side

No roll up windows, but some have made plexiglass back window that can be removed as well. Others go to a full soft top with a roll up back window as part of the top.

To be clear, I thought you were talking about the "idea" of a quick release tail gate. NOT, the idea of using the same method as the doors.

And to that.....I don't have my gate or hinges anymore, so I wouldn't know. :doah: But I do know those assist springs are not to be underestimated :haha::whistle:

Understandable! Ya my biggest concern was the assist springs but mine are under no tension when gate is up so i think it should be fine. My other concern was pressure and load on the pins but i think it should be doable although it might require two guys to remove/install the gate every time.

I guess at this point ill probably just give it a try and maybe post a write up on how it worked out
