This may be a strange question, but has anyone ever done or thought about doing a quick release windshield? I pulled mine before caging my truck, and now am wanting to put it back in, but I anticipate pulling it a couple times a year for running on the street and then out for running the TREC races at the badlands.

What I'm thinking of doing is cutting out the rear lip on the windshield channel rubber so the rubber just sets into the windshield opening, and then fabbing some clamping plates for each a pillar that would serve as windshield retainers.

Anyone see any glaringly obvious reasons why this wouldn't work? The rubber seal isn't THAT hard that it's impossible to do this the normal way over and over again, but it wouldn't hurt to make it a little easier??

I do know the tempered glass is very tricky to work with. I think that is why it is called tempered, cuz it has a temper and ift you try to get it to do anything out of the ordinary it gets pissed and gets you back. You could always do this and replace the glass with lexan, but then you lose the advantage of being able to clean easily and the plastic scratches too easy with mud and dirt on it.

I hear that- I was just trying to see if anyone had ever tried this before. Looks like it's a no. My only worry would be that the glass could pop out, but it wouldn't be able to come out towards the front with 4 hold down clamps, and can't pull out the back since it would still have the same front rubber seal holding it against the a-pillar.

Maybe I'll just try it and report back.

Jeeps had those for years. My 60 CJ would hinge down or you could hinge it about halfway, and the hinges would let you lift it off.

Actually taking the glass out of the seal and replacing it would be tricky and get old after a while. But, if you could build a frame with a gasket that would seal around the roof, side pillars, and dash, it would be a snap.
Study how Jeep does it, and it may give you an idea.
Given some of the mods I have seen here, that would not be all that drastic.

If you were really creative, go Jeep design, You could do it with a full windshield frame too. Just like windows of a house that have the frame, but the glass part tilts in or out. Might work,
