Quick Spark Plug Help..

why shouldn't you run bosch platinum plugs? i just bought some tonight for my K10. my dad runs them in his new yorker and his power ram and both vehicles i have noticed run considerably better. my plugs right now are delco's and are set at 0.35, is that not enough for a vehicle with hei? the motor is a 305 h.o. out of a 85 monte carlo ss and advance said the gap for the plugs for it should be 0.35.

i ran bosch platinums in my blazer and they went bad after 10 months:mad1: so i warrantied them for some autolites and i think that my engine is running better than it ever did with the bosch plugs.

.035 is pretty much the standard for SBC's with HEI. First year of HEI I think Chev was running .060, but the next year and then on out I think the 350 and 305 were always .035, or at least the majority.

From my experience, .035+ and you won't go wrong.

I use bosch platinum and they work fine. I tried some ACs a couple weeks ago and the truck ran like it had an intermittant miss. I've had luck with the NGKs that 4x4 high uses. I use to use those too but that was before the heads were rebuilt and the NGKs seemed to foul out where the platinums did not.

thank you. it does run better with the platinums in than with the delcos in
glad u figured it out.you can make the spark gap as big as it doesnt hurt performance.to get a bigger spark you gap the plug bigger and bigger till it starts misfiring.then go back to the last gap that worked well.with a good ignition system you can gap out sometimes as far as .060 and still get good spark.the platinums will last longer and give a good spark because of the material used.i just like the standard ones because they cost half the price and still get the job done.
